The Protection of Women From Domestic Violence Act.
On a reading of the Act, it shall be said, it cuts at the very root of our Vedic culture, not available in the other parts of the world, based on which marriages are conducted and families are formed. This culture has lucidly been stated in Vedas thus: “If a householder wants to live a happy life, he or she must be spiritual, that makes one expand the self to take in other selves also. Conflicts are bound to be there, if there is no spiritual growth in the individuals”.
To accomplish the spiritual growth, one shall shed his feeling of individuality. Then the individual will grow into a person. Julian Huxley defines ‘person’ as an individual who transcends his organic
individuality in conscious social participation. A person thus gets the capacity to live happily with other persons in society; individuals cannot, they only collide like billiard balls.
It shall, in this connection, be remembered that man cannot be made moral by an Act of Parliament. For that matter, the Act in question does not intend to make an individual a person.
