Some more Packaging tips for identification of packaging.
CAN
Cans are usually made from metal and are rigid and non resealable. Cans made of metal (on top) and plastic (in the lower part) are also found sometimes.
Can’s usually contain wet or moist products or products that perish after opening such as pet food, soup, and canned vegetables.
Can’s are usually round however flatter, shallow cans with squared corners are available for products such as canned meats and fish.
Can’s sometimes come with a separate plastic lid to reseal the contents after initial opening and keep the contents fresher for a short period only~ In this instance the packaging is still a can as the supplied lid is separate to the can and once opened the Can itself cannot be resealed.

CARAFE
Carafes are very similar to bottles in that they are primarily designed for the pouring of liquids. Consequently there are recognisable shoulders that narrow to a distinct neck to aid pouring, however the Carafe differs from a bottle in that the neck is significantly wider than a regular bottle and it may also open out again at the top such that it is slightly wider than the neck. A Carafe never has a handle. Packaging Material Values associated with Carafe;Glass
CARTON
Cartons are rigid, usually cardboard, containers designed to hold liquid or wet products that are meant to be poured. Cartons do not have a bag inside and the Carton is rendered waterproof through the presence of an integral waterproof lining or treatment of the cardboard itself to make it waterproof. (If the liquid inside is contained inside a bag then the packaging should be coded as Box).Whilst fundamentally similar Cartons do show some variation in shape, being cross sectionally square, rectangular or even round, or by having either a flat top or a gabled top. They also vary in that they may be resealable, with either a screw top or press down lid, or non resealable, often with a hole being made in the Carton by the consumer.

CASE
A case has similar characteristics to a box. However it is more likely to be made of metal, wood or plastic, and on occasion cardboard (e.g. cigar cases). A case has to have real hinges that can either be a separate piece that can attached to that body and lid of the case, or be integrated into the lid and body of the case (e.g. cassette case) or have a seamed/folded area that acts as would a hinge. For seamed/folded Cases, the seam would usually run along the longest side of the product. In some instances a Box may have very similar features in which case refer to your Module level Guidelines.

CHUB
“Chub” products are usually packaged by semi liquefying the content, then pouring it into a flexible plastic cylinder of the wrapping and then cutting and sealing at intervals along the cylinder. The product then re-firms inside the package prior to sale. This packaging looks like a “sausage” with both ends usually closed by metal seals. The product can be sliced along with the wrapping, as if it were a sausage.
This sort of packaging is common especially in the pet food market, but it is used also for cheese, pate, slicing meats, etc.

CRATE
Crates are rigid, square containers open on top, usually used to contain and carry fruit or vegetables in large quantities. They can be made of plastic or cardboard but also of wooden boards. Sometimes a removable covering made from a plastic film or net is placed on top to protect the products.
When coding the Packaging Material only the material of the Crate has to be taken into consideration and not the material of the covering.

HANGER
A Hanger is a plastic, metal or wooden hooked hanger from which a product is suspended. The product is not usually enclosed, though sometimes the product may also be wrapped in plastic. Often, rather than the product, it is the hanger itself that is enclosed by the product with the exception of the hook from which it is suspended. There may be a cardboard tab around the neck of the hook that displays branding and manufacturer information.
