A Smile reaches the Eyes!

A smile is facial expressions that happens involuntarily or which can be produced voluntarily. The ‘involuntary smile’ is produced as a spontaneous response to genuine emotion, and involves the use of the zygomaticus major muscle situated at both ends of the mouth, as well as the orbicular is oculi muscle situated below the eyes. So this type of smile reaches the eyes, so to say.
The ‘voluntary smile’ is the polite smile that we sometimes put on. It can be produced at will. The voluntary smile is produced using only the muscles of the mouth. So it does not reach the eyes.
Another name for the involuntary smile is ‘Duchenne smile’ after the 19th century French doctor Guillaume Duchenne, who was one of the earliest researchers t observe that genuine smiles showing real happiness utilize not only the muscle of the mouth but also those of the eyes.
